Luke 10:2 “Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” I want you to look this picture and tell me what’s wrong. Pretty easy, huh? This guy is fishing in the wrong place using the wrong bait.  Any good fisherman knows that you catch fish on the fish’s terms.  You go where the fish live and use bait they like to eat.

Ruby Bridges was a little girl destined to change the world – before the first grade!  When her parents moved to New Orleans when she was 4, they were hoping to find a better life than they had known as sharecroppers in Mississippi.   Little they know that this move would put them and their little girl at the center of controversy.  Their daughter’s name would become synonymous with the Civil Rights Movement and, indeed, would provide a bridge for others to cross.

Jesus knew His way of life was unsustainable.  Viewed from the northern extreme of Israel, it was easy for Him to see that it was only a matter of time before the Romans would crush the rebellious nation of Israel and scatter it’s inhabitance to the four corners of the empire – at least the lucky ones who would survive inevitable massacre.  Most would be sacrificed on the altar of Roman law and order, victims of the brutality of an empire unkind to such rebellion.

When I was 9 years old, we moved from the country to a small town called Waverly.  My uncle lived in this town and the first thing he said to me when we moved was, “We’re going to get you on a little league team.” Now I was not much of a sports fan in those days.  Growing up on a small farm in the country, I was more acquainted with wandering through the woods on horseback or learning to shoot a rifle than playing stick and ball sports.
